We finally got our approval to adopt a Boxer from Austin Boxer Rescue to pair up with our main Boxer pup, Truck, who has some significant anxiety issues when crated. We’re still early in the bond process but felt that he needed a Boxer friend to grow up with so we didn’t want to wait too long to pair him up. Boxers are social dogs and need companionship so where there is one there almost certainly is two. Otherwise they get rambunctious, moody, destructive, etc. Best to think of them like a 14-15 year old girl.
Suffice to say that we started recognizing characteristics about Truck’s behavior that told us we needed to find him a playmate. “Mommy and Daddy” just wouldn’t be enough for this baby boy. We were determined to find the right dog though. After what we went through with Sadie, it was imperative that we find another Boxer to pair up with Truck who would be an ideal match.
After the initial home visit from Austin Boxer Rescue and the excellent counseling they provided, we finally got our approval and started working with their coordinator to find Truck and us another forever Boxer baby. We spent a few weeks looking at several and then came Rainbow Brite…
When Rainbow Brite was found by ABR on Halloween night she was in horrible shape. Mange all over, heart worms, starving and severely under weight, the whole bit. In 2 months with a little medicine, a lot of love and 2 square meals a day she has finally rounded back out and is a calm, loving, happy go lucky little girl.
They think she was used as a breeder down in the valley but now she is our Rainbow Brite or as we call her… Sissy.
Truck loves his new Sissy and we love our new 4 year old baby girl Boxer.
Here’s a picture of the two of them resting together to melt your heart:
