Made a List and Checked it Twice

Golf Clubs

After the Par for Pie outing a few months back I had been wanting to get a set of starter golf clubs to develop some measure of skill on a golf course.  It may be a futile attempt but I figured it might be worth it to have another outlet to defuse and give me something else that’s fun to do with the team down at the local Municipal LinksAnyway, one of the main things I asked for this year was that set of clubs and following some advice of a fellow co-worker I went for the inexpensive but very aesthetically pleasing clubs that I would love to play with just because they look cool.  Looks can be deceiving but when you venture into learning to play a challenging sport, sometimes you need to pull the wool over your eyes just to develop the interest further.

If I don’t like it or decide it isn’t for me over the long term then I’m only out $100 for the clubs and bag, $20 for a bucket of 75 recycled balls and $5-$6 for a pack of tees.

Guitar

After the golf clubs, one of the other things I really wanted was an electric guitar.  When I was young, I remember my cousin had a guitar that I think was a black Epiphone SG.  I remember loving the shape and one of my favorite shapes when I think of an electric guitar.  The other part of this is that months ago I had asked for a classical acoustic guitar for my birthday but later decided that I didn’t like that style of play anymore and really couldn’t maintain my interest in learning that style.  I didn’t maintain proper finger nails anymore for that type of play and I just wasn’t able to pick up classical guitar playing again.

So I was able to sell the classical and asked my wife to use the proceeds to put towards something else since it was a gift from her in the first place.  Well, she found the blood red Epiphone SG that I’d really wanted so now I have a guitar that I think will hold my learning interest more.  I just need to pair it with a decent starter amp and hopefully I’ll be playing music in short order.

Yo-Yo

The third thing I really wanted was a good quality Duncan butterfly style Yo-Yo.  The one I really wanted most was a Duncan Metal Zero Yo-Yo.  One of my co-workers has this specific yo-yo and I must say the craftsmanship is outstanding.  I have loved yo-yo’s since I was a little boy and there is no other manufacturer besides Duncan as far as I’m concerned.  The thing is I have had cheapy yo-yo’s over the years but never had a really good quality one that would stand the test of time and years of play.  As an adult, now that we had some money to spare I really wanted a quality yo-yo that would last a long, long time.  This is my new Metal Zero in the black color.

Watch

The last thing I really had on my list was a new watch.  I have not been much for watches in the past but with my new title I’ve found a need to introduce a bit more sophistication into my attire.  Couple that with a need to tell time simply and quickly when flying from place to place and its easy to see that simply using the phone, tablet or laptop is not sufficient as all of those devices are not always allowed when flying.  Not to mention that they are just altogether bulky and if I don’t have to pull them out of my bag I’d rather not do so.

The watch I’ve had my eye on for some time now is a Armitron 20-4507DGSV.  It is Swarovski Crystal Accented, has a gun metal gray face and a stainless steel band that is polished with a nice silvery chrome shine.  It is a quality, middle of the road watch that looks classy but isn’t some pompous, smug or snobbish watch like a Rolex, etc.  I simply wanted a good, quality watch that would look sharp, last for a really long time and class me up a bit without painting a target on my back.  Plus, I figured $50-$60 was all I was willing to spend on something I might not wear much outside of business trips.
